A “Super” Weekend in Anaheim

Ready to start our day in Disneyland!

Anaheim, CA is only a hop, skip, and jump from Sunny San Diego, which makes it the perfect spot for a SUPER weekend getaway! It’s not only the home to some SUPER fun events such as Wondercon, as well as the famous Disneyland & California Adventures , but it also has a vibrant food and beer scene, offering a diverse range of options for locals and visitors alike! All in all, Anaheim's food and beer scene is a must-see for anyone visiting the area for a SUPER fun time!

Our goal this trip was to find all the SUPER Hero inspired spots throughout Anaheim - and you’d be surprised how many we found…

Where to Stay

The Sheraton Park Hotel

There’s so many hotel options to choose from up in Anaheim, but we also realize how expensive it can be if you’re trying to stay within walking distance to the convention center or Disneyland. With this in mind, one of our favorite spots to stay is The Sheraton Park Hotel. It’s always super clean, reasonably priced, and the perfect distance to everything!

The Poolside of the Sheraton Park Hotel

If you can, try to request a room facing Disneyland! The views are great and you may even be able to see the fireworks at night! What an experience to be able to lay in your comfortable bed and watch the fireworks go off — Ashley really enjoyed the view, day and night, and it was nice to avoid the crowds down in Disney during the fireworks!

One of our favorite things about this hotel actually happens to be their restaurant, Savor! It’s the perfect place to get a SUPER deal, for some really good bites & sips. For dinner you can spend $25/Person for all you can eat pizza! And they aren’t just serving up buffet style cheese and pepperoni, no… In the same style as a Brazilian steakhouse, they are serving pizza “rodizio” style! That’s right, the team is walking around with crafty pizzas and letting you choose what flavors you want. Their flavors rotate occasionally, so be sure to check them out if you’re in the area… they have your traditional flavors, of course… but also some really interesting ones, such as the elote pizza we tried! And of course every bite is hot right out of the wood burning oven!

Whether you’re staying at Sheraton Park Hotel or not, we highly recommend checking out Savor after a long day exploring Anaheim. They even have an awesome wine selection, just in case you’re looking to WINE down!

What to Do

Wondercon

Wondercon is an annual comic book and pop culture convention that happens to be organized by the same company that produces San Diego Comic-con. It’s known for its diverse offerings of panel discussions, workshops, exhibitors, and celebrity guests. WonderCon attracts so many different people from all parts of the world! Comic book enthusiasts, cosplayers, sci-fi and fantasy fans, gamers — whatever you may be interested in, Wondercon has something for everyone!

Wondercon Convention! A truly unique experience

The convention features a variety of activities and events, including panels on the latest trends in comic books and pop culture, previews of upcoming movies and television shows, and opportunities to meet and get autographs from notable artists, writers, and actors. Wondercon also includes an exhibit hall where attendees can browse and purchase merchandise, including comic books, toys, and collectibles. We really enjoyed walking through the exhibit hall to see all the costumes, robots, and awesome comic book collections!

Wondercon has become a popular event for fans of all ages and interests but note the convention typically takes place in the spring! So if you’re interested in visiting, be sure to look out for their 2024 dates!

We loved the roaming droids!

Since Wondercon only comes around once a year, if you have the time and are interested in enjoying some Comic-Con fun all year round, you should definitely check out the San Diego Comic-Con museum in Balboa Park! From learning about animation, trying our hand at drawing, seeing some incredible costumes and playing some classics games at their paceman arcade it’s an awesome spot to go.

Disneyland & California Adventures

Of course, if you have a spare day (or 3), you have to check out Disneyland & California Adventures!! There’s nothing like walking onto Main Street, USA, and being greeted by the smell of freshly baked cookies and vanilla. Or the anticipation of waiting in line for your first churro — which of course was Ashley’s first priority!!

Ashley loves her Churros!

Whether you're a Disney Adult or a regular visitor, Disneyland has something for everyone to enjoy! For Disney Adults, there are numerous opportunities to immerse themselves in the world of Disney, including the chance to meet your favorite characters, attend special events, and enjoy unique experiences like building a custom lightsaber or designing a custom pair of Mickey Mouse ears. Chris of course was SUPER excited to visit Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge!

Disneyland has done a great job with this new park, which happens to be set on the planet of Batuu and features two main attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. In Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, guests can board the iconic Millennium Falcon and take on the role of pilots, gunners, or engineers as they fly through space and complete a smuggling mission. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is a thrilling ride that takes guests on a journey through the galaxy, as they join the Resistance in a battle against the First Order.

Galaxys Edge in Disneyland

In addition to the attractions, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and experiences too ensure you are fully immersed in the Star Wars universe. Chris grabbed breakfast at Ronto Roasters — he devoured the Rondo Breakfast wrap and washed it down with some Blue Milk (Ashley also got some Green Milk, because why not?!).

Over at California Adventures they’ve added some really SUPER attractions as well. The new Marvel-themed land, Avengers Campus, includes a variety of fun rides, shows, and character interactions that could keep you occupied all day. Our favorite ride happened to be the Spider-Man: Web Slingers ride, where we used our own body movements to sling webs and help Spider-Man fight off the villains!

If you happen to be a super nerd like us — you’ll recognize the Shwarma placement in the new Avengers Campus… Remember the scene in The Avengers where Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk are sitting in a circle in a partially destroyed restaurant munching on their shawarma wraps… yep, this spot is an ode to that touch of humor! And it was really good Shwarma too!

What to Eat

The Packing District

The Anaheim Packing District is a foodie's paradise. The district is housed in a renovated citrus packing house, with a charming vintage feel that takes visitors back in time. Inside, you'll find a bustling marketplace filled with vendors offering a range of delicious and diverse cuisines, from gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and artisanal ice cream to authentic Vietnamese pho and freshly baked bread. The Packing District also features a speakeasy-style bar, hidden behind a wall of kegs, where you can sip on craft cocktails while listening to live music. 206 BCE is located on the bottom floor of the Anaheim Packing District and features some famous anti-gravity noodles! It’s a mystery how they defy gravity, so you gotta go check them our yourself. They also feature seafood platters, bone broth pho, and a curated collection of sweets & snacks imported from SE Asia.

Georgia's Soul Food is known for its delicious southern-style cuisine and serve a range of classic dishes that are sure to satisfy any craving. We ordered the Shrimp po boy, fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, and fried green tomatoes! The restaurant also offers vegetarian and vegan options, making it a great choice for those with dietary restrictions. Be sure to order a Hurricane, too!

Unsung Brewery happens to be next door to the Anaheim Packing District, but we definitely recommend stopping by… especially for any super hero fanatics out there! The space is decorated with unique artwork, including superhero-inspired murals and a giant metal robot sculpture that pays homage to the brewery's sci-fi-inspired branding! Be sure to search for a hidden Spiderman when you visit!

They also have some great brews! Unsung Brewery is known for its innovative and flavorful beers, they’re known for complex beers that push the boundaries of traditional brewing methods. Some of the most popular brews at Unsung Brewery include the Propeller Head IPA and the Anthia Hibiscus Sour!

PopBar is the perfect spot to finish off your night at the Anaheim Packing District! Popbar is known for its delicious and customizable gelato, sorbet, and yogurt pops. They offer tons of different flavors and toppings, where you get to mix and match any way you like. Ashley ordered a Cookies & Cream pop, dipped in Mint Chocolate and chocolate sprinkles… YUM!
