Best San Diego Brunch!

Good brunch in San Diego usually means you’ll be waiting a while for an open table, reservation or not. So, want to hear about a wait that’s totally worth it? Morning Glory has one of the best boujee brunches in San Diego! They have a BOMB menu with a great outdoor rooftop vibe. It’s truly the perfect spot for a photo opp, hot date, or just a delicious bite.

The Atmosphere

You’ll notice the Morning Glory website isn’t much, but like they said - they’re in the business of making breakfast, not websites. And boy, is that true. Their menu is pretty creative, with a beautiful atmosphere to match.

The second you walk up the stairs to the hostess, you’re welcomed by some beautiful bright pinks and eccentric decor. Morning Glory is one of many projects by Paul Basil and Basile Studio - the same designer of Born and Raised (talk about a talented guy).

Everywhere you look, there’s something new to discover. Different patterns that somehow don’t clash, a disco ball turned eyeball that looks around as you enjoy your meal, and of course some beautiful views of the historic Little Italy district.

Morning Glory is known for going viral on TikTok and getting you those extra likes on Instagram, trust us, we know from experience ;)

The Cocktails

Their drink menu is pretty dope, with so many options to choose from. Not only are the drinks delicious, they come in some beautiful glassware. It’s an Instagram story addition, for sure. We could recommend several, but we’ll throw out a classic and something a bit adventurous..

  • The Bloody Mary

You can order a Bloody Mary anywhere, yes, but Morning Glory does a great job with this hangover cure. You have a choice of Vodka, Gin, or Tequila, which all pair really well with their homemade V-9 juice (ha, get it?), umami juice, garlic bitters, and celery foam. Again, they made something so simple, boujee!

  • Goldstein’s Orange Joolius

I was RAISED on Orange Julius, so I had to try this drink the second I saw it. And of course, I was not disappointed. It’s not your typical DQ smoothie though - they added an adult twist to a pretty cool throwback. With light bodied rum, dry riesling, coconut milk, orange, passion fruit, vanilla and aquafaba (everything has to have a bit of boujee sparkle) it’s a phenomenal drink that I finished much too quickly!

The Bites

Soufflé Pancakes

Jiggly, light, freakin awesome. Need I say more? These pancakes are a Japanese style pancake that essentially have the same ingredients as a regular pancake, just add some more egg whites. Seems simple, right? Wrong. These bad boys take some true talent to get right and Morning Glory nails it. They are so light and fluffy and they’re paired perfectly with a delicious homemade whipped cream and uncut pure maple syrup. It’s a must have every time we go!

The Morning Glory Fried Rice

We always try to balance out the sweet, with a little salty. You really can’t go wrong with any of the savory options on their menu, but we are obsessed with the Morning Glory Fried Rice. This dish sounds strange at first - Fried Rice for breakfast? But it’s honestly so perfect - pork belly, cheese, peas, spinach, scallions, and a fried egg on top (aha! It’s breakfast now) it’s the perfect twist on such a simple classic.

Crispy Scalloped Potato

Still hungry? (Or just curious, because there’s so many cool things on this menu) We recommend hitting up the “Side Pieces”. The Crispy Scalloped Potato is simple, but BOMB. It’s an ode to a classic clown fast food restaurant hash brown (who we will keep anonymous for now, but hopefully you caught on). Seems boring, but somehow they made a simple hash brown boujee - perfectly crispy, too.

If you ever take a peak at some of the SD Foodies outings, you’ll notice there’s usually a girl with a glass of bubbles in her hand - that’s me! Bubbles are my go to, so when I was told there was a MOET & CHANDON VENDING MACHINE, I almost fell out of my chair. Talk about a boujee addition to a restaurant, I’m so here for it. It’s pretty simple too... just grab a coin from your waiter, pop it in, and choose your destiny. I need one of these in our house, honestly...

Photo Opportunity!

In typical Consortium fashion, not a single detail is missed. Including the bathrooms. A perfect bathroom pic location, the whole bathroom is enclosed by mirrors. Of course a boujee Japanese toilet to complete the vibe, as well. Even if you don’t have to go, just do it for the gram!
