Veer of the 15 Freeway and hop onto the 78 for a little lakeside getaway at Lakehouse San Marcos! Little did we know such a beautiful subset of San Marcos existed! From Golf, to great food, to lake views – you really can’t go wrong.

The Room
We had the luxury of a lakeside view, overlooking Lake San Marcos. We watched the ducks swim, black swans glide, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset over the mountains as we shipped a glass of wine. We definitely recommend a room with a view, with prices very reasonable for all options!
During the day I sat on the balcony an worked remotely, while watching the gondolas and small boats pass by. The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold, you would have never guessed it was Winter in San Diego (aren’t we lucky, I guess that’s why we pay the sunshine tax!)
The room itself was a decent size, with a king bed and also a pull out sofa bed if necessary. It came fully equipped with a small bar nook, which also had a small fridge and “bartenders sink”. The bathroom was also a good size, with a large walk in shower!
Things to Do at Lakehouse
Lakehouse San Marcos had several options for things to do around the property! Whether you’re interested in land or water activities, there is something for everyone.
For water activities they have options for stand up paddle boards, water trikes, Kayaks, and dock fishing. They even had opportunities to rent out a Duffy boat or a large pontoon boat, which seats 8-10!
We also recommend taking the Black Swan Gondola around the lake – where you can take The SunUp Special, the morning cruise where you can bring some champagne (no corkage!) to complete your ride. They also have some romantic options, for anyone looking to woo a guy or gal!

If you’re more interested in land “sports” you can take a short walk over to the golf course to hit a bucket of balls or play a round of golf! They also have beach cruisers on site, in which you could take around the property or even around the quite neighborhoods surrounding the property.

I personally just enjoyed the view and relaxed on our balcony -- they also have two pools and a jacuzzi, so endless opportunities for relaxation! At night we even roasted our complimentary smore’s over the roaring fire, right outside our room, overlooking the water!
Dining Options at Lakehouse
Lakehouse San Marcos has a few different options for dining! You can walk across the street to The Grill, which has beautiful views of the golf course, delicious food, and great service.
There’s also Almafi Cucina Italiana, where you can enjoy drinks on the water or a full dinner in their beautiful dining room. The Grill also provides in room dining sevices, delivered right to your door!
They also have a spot for events & catering, which you can actually see highlighted on the Teen Mom Family reunion on MTV (how cool to have them filming an event right here in San Diego, that show was one of my guilty pleasures back in the day)!!
Breakfast - Room Service and Coffee
For Breakfast, we decided to order room service from The Grill. They had many options to choose from, both sweet and salty.
We decided to order the French Toast and the Chilaquiles. They were both very delicious and we enjoyed our meals on the balcony, overlooking the water.
Chris also enjoyed the free iced coffee at Canteen Coffee, offered to all hotel guests. They also serve tea, wine, beer – whatever you’re feeling!
Cocktails - Almafi Cucina Italiana
Before dinner, Chris and I wandered over to Almafi Cucina Italiana for some drinks right on the water. They had a decent sized menu with several drink and food options – from cocktails and beer, to pizza and appetizers.
They have both a daytime deck on the water - which is where we enjoyed our drinks - and a full dining experience upstairs, with beautiful views overlooking the whole lake.
Dinner - The Grill at St. Mark Golf Course
After drinks at Almafi we walked across the street to The Grill at St. Mark Golf Course. We watched the sunset over the water as we walked over the bridge, it was quite the *romantic* walk!
We enjoyed dinner overlooking the golf course, watching families and friends practicing on the putting green and driving around in golf carts. We had a table on the patio, with the warmth of the fire keeping us cozy all night.
The menu at The Grill had a lot of variety – from golf course classics, to some more classy dinner options. We started off with a good grill classic – the nachos! They were delicious and had a lot of flavor coming from the Chorizo, which was nicely paired with white beans, charred poblano cream, pickled red jalapeno, pico, and house cheese sauce.
For dinner Chris enjoyed the Slow Braised Short Rib, with roasted garlic red skin mashed potatoes, braised spinach and kale, with a rosemary red wine demi. They short ribs were super tender and the sauce was a great touch -- which all came together with the mashed potatoes. Definitely a great comfort food dish!
I had one of their new menu items, the Wagyu Beef Bologonese with Herb Rocotta. It was a delicious classic that they spiced up by going with the Wagyu and Ricotta – I loved it!

Overall Review: 9.4/10
Lakehouse San Marcos is a great little get away, with beautiful lake views and delicious dining choices! We highly recommend splurging for a room with a view and enjoying all their various Onsight activities!

The rooms are a good size, with great lake views and all the necessary amenities. They have various sized rooms, even large condos with large patios for bigger party sizes!
Things to Do: 10/10
Definitely a lot of things to do, whether you want to rent a boat or just go dock fishing, you can spend as little or as much as you want on a full day of fun activities.
Dining Review: 9/10
Lakehouse San Marcos definitely has plenty of dining options, all of which have great menus to match their beautiful views.
