Drifting Away in Margaritaville San Diego

Tucked away in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, The Margaritaville San Diego is a bustling island vibe filled hotel with all of the charm and cocktails you could ever need. From luxurious rooms, rooftop pools and bars, and a solid restaurant street side, The Margaritaville is a one stop shop for locals and tourists to get in the Island spirit!

Downtown San Diego, home to The Margaritaville San Diego.

Island Vibes Await!

Jimmy Buffet would be proud of this San Diego location, no doubt a themed hotel (there are parrots and a giant flip flop in the lobby), but this hotel doesn’t feel like a kitschy grab. Stepping foot inside the lobby you can find friendly staff, some tasteful island art and plenty of comfy couches to rest on, be sure to listen closely and you will hear Jimmy signing you along as you check in.

Margaritaville San Diego Lobby

The well appointed rooms are full of splashes of teal and warm linen colors, that akin to a breezy Bahama beach-side resort. Clean and large rooms are extra large and some like ours we stayed at featured great views of downtown San Diego. The bathrooms are large, with a soaking tub and walk in shower it’s not tight with two people.

The 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar

As its your right once staying at The Margaritaville, it’s always time for a drink, and Jimmy said its 5 o’Clock Somewhere. Head upstairs to their mid level pool and rooftop bar overlooking downtown San Diego. With stunning views, warm pools, cabanas, games and a friendly bar team mixing up island classics (be sure to order them in the souvenir blenders) this is the perfect way to get started at The Margaritaville.

The 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar

For drinks there are a large swath of options but some stuck out to us that you should definitely consider! For those who need a little pep with their booze the Changes in Lattitude with Margaritaville Gold Tequila, orange Curaçao, lime juice, passion fruit purée and Tropical Red Bull will definitely do the job. For those looking for a more traditional Island sipper, try the Coco Cabana with Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, melon liqueur, pineapple and cranberry juices for a boozy and succulently sweet drink!

Don’t forget to order any of the drinks in the blender cups!

Cheeseburgers in Paradise

After a few drinks at the 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar, it might be time for a bite, so change into your nice flip flops and head down to LandShark Bar & Grill. Right off the main lobby this stunning island themed restaurant is fill to the brim with decor to really complete the vibe. A miniature plane hangs from the ceiling and an extra large “Fins Up” In neon casts a warm hue to this streetside restaurant.

Landshark Bar and Gill

Executive Chef Mike Minor cooks up some island classics as well as some more creative fare. Perfect with a cocktail or three, these bites are exactly what Jimmy would want after a long day exploring some islands! We were told several times from a few friends and staff members that the Taco Nachos were the dish to order, and they were correct! These massive nachos filled with taco meat, white queso, shredded cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, jalapeños, guacamole and taco sauce are fit for at least 4 people!

The famous Taco Nachos, photos do not show the true scale, trust us they are bigggg.

After snacking on a few nachos it was time for the main event. We choose three entrees to get a good sampling of the menu. From their famous LandShark Burger with American cheese, signature sauce, lettuce and tomato is a classic bite for a reason and did not disappoint.

The LandShark Burger

Other favorites on the menu were the Ahi Tuna Bowl with jasmine rice, avocado, cabbage, cucumbers, radishes, green onions, housemade ponzu, topped with aji amarillo, cilantro and sesame seeds for a lighter bite! Ashley thought that the Baja Fish Tacos with LandShark-battered fish, cabbage slaw, poblano cream, pico de gallo, flour tortillas. Served with tortilla chips and fire-roasted salsa was a great paring with the Coconut Sandbar a tropical drink made with Espolòn Blanco Tequila, Margaritaville Triple Sec, pineapple juice, coconut syrup and a house margarita blend.

The Baja Fish Tacos

On top of all that there is even live music at LandShark Bar & Grill with daily live performers its a great spot to catch some local performers. We saw Cody Carter when we were there and were blown away A perfect way to end the night our stay at The Margaritaville San Diego.
