Checking In:

Being a smaller hotel, there is no valet, but a convenient carport located adjacent the resort. The carport, although not free, is convenient given the difficult parking situation along the shores of Carlsbad. Upon entering the hotel, we were greeted kindly and checked in. The lobby is light and breezy, with gorgeous views of the ocean. The front desk attendant directed us to the FREE beach toys and chairs that we could use throughout our stay. Such a nice touch! We were given our room keys and made our way to our room. Although there is an elevator, the resort has a lot of stairs, thus we would suggest that you are mindful when selecting your room.

The Room

Wow… this is where Beach Terrace Inn really sets itself apart from the rest. Upon walking in, you quickly notice that the room is HUGE! I’ll admit, the room was probably larger than my first condo :) The room is incredibly clean and well decorated, with plenty of room for all your beach wear.

Although the room was beautiful, we spent a majority of our time at the outdoor balcony admiring the complete 180 degree view of the ocean. This balcony, albeit small, was lovely and made our stay remarkable! The bathroom was large and had a massive walk in shower (which was well appreciated). However, since the bathroom was facing away from the ocean it was quite dark and cave like. Some may appreciate this, my girlfriend being one of them, but I personally prefer the sunlight peeking through the windows.

The Amenities

One of the most gorgeous parts of this inn is the beautiful pool that overlooks the ocean. Located right in the middle of the inn, it’s seen by almost everyone and has quite the stunning view. I chose to bring my laptop and a local sparkling seltzer (Modern Times). While enjoying the sounds of the waves, I caught up on some emails. My favorite. The lounge chairs were large and comfortable, with clean towels available for guests. Overall, the set up was great. I loved how relaxing this hotel is. It clearly defines itself as a getaway for those people looking for some peace and quiet.

Although we brought our own beach gear, I was pleasantly surprised to see the inn offering a complimentary service. Including both games for kids and adults! This was a great touch and definitely something to remember for next time!

Dining Options

Although Beach Terrace Inn has no on site dining options (minus the complimentary breakfast and grab and go market) it’s within walking distance of some of our favorite dining spots in San Diego!

Pure Project at the Village

One of San Diego’s most well respected and popular craft breweries, Pure Project has a phenomenal draft selection and rotating food trucks outside!

I love “Rain” Unfiltered Pilsner as a lighter option to an IPA. My girlfriend got a blackberry hard kombucha and was obsessed! Subtly sweet and tons of fruit notes. Absolutely delicious!

264 Fresco - Modern Italian

After a few beers at Pure Project, we crossed the train tracks and headed over to one of our favorite Italian spots, 264 Fresco. We love 264 Fresco for its simple and approachable menu that satisfies our craving for genuine pasta, fresh seafood, and plenty of wine!

Our favorites at 264 Fresco are the Lobster Tail and Lobster Raviolis. Who doesn’t love pasta and seafood!

Another favorite that we enjoyed was the Ravioli di Zucca. These handmade ravioli were stuffed with butternut squash + ricotta + parmesan filling, then sauced up with a grand marnier sauce 🤤

Handel’s Ice Cream

After thoroughly stuffing ourselves at 264 Fresco, we headed over to our absolute favorite ice cream spot in Carlsbad: Handel’s Ice Cream. This midwestern chain has been serving up freshly made ice cream since 1945. They specialize in seasonal flavors and are well known for their exteremly generous portions. If you are looking for a classic ice cream joint, you must try Handel’s!

We got a single scoop of mint chocolate chip in a chocolate dipped waffle cone, and it was PHENOMENAL! We could really tell that everything was freshly made and the staff was so nice!

Good Morning!

There is nothing better after a comfortable slumber than waking up, getting some coffee, and watching the waves crash. There is something so peaceful about listening to the waves beat the sand and watching the beach community slowly wake up. At Beach Terrace Inn, you have a wonderful view into the Carlsbad beach community. I couldn’t get enough of it! If I could move here, I so would

Beach Terrace Inn usually has a lovely indoor/outdoor breakfast spot overlooking the beach, but due to COVID 19 they redid there breakfast policy. Instead, they offered a breakfast bag for two, delivered straight to your door! This was super convenient and packed with local produce, drinks, and some of our favorite cereal from Kashi (also local :) )!

Morning Coffee - Things to Do

One of the cutest spots in Carlsbad is Succulent Cafe. This adorable little coffee shop doubles as a succulent store! Grab a artisanal latte and wander around their creative succulent displays!

I got an iced americano and I loved their espresso blend, so rich and dark! Definitely go check out this hotspot.
